Melissa Patton and James Devlin, Head of Business, BT

BT Business Total Broadband: Fibre offering download speeds of up to 40Mb/s from as little as £30.00 per month, is now available to businesses in Balmoral exchange area in Belfast. The service gives business traffic priority at times of contention and the UK’s fastest upstream speeds of up to 10Mb/s*, allowing users to get more than ever before from the internet.

The new service allows smaller companies to run multiple VOIP, high-definition video conferencing and business-grade cloud applications plus download emails, web-pages and FTP files concurrently, to reach new customers and better market themselves. It will also make home working a reality, allowing staff to remain connected to the office at all times.

A dedicated broadband "fast lane" also puts customer traffic first at times of contention to help firms continue to work faster, do more, reduce operational costs and boost productivity.

James Devlin, Head of Business, BT, said: “52 per cent of small businesses in Northern Ireland said that faster broadband was the technology that had the most positive impact on their operations and 31 per cent said that faster broadband speeds would make businesses more competitive according to recent research **. The capability, reliability and value of BT Business Total Broadband: Fibre will enable businesses to build and increase their competitive edge. We want businesses to get the most from their online operations and are committed to rolling out super >fast speeds across Northern Ireland during 2010.”

Seamus Murray, partner of accountancy firm G. Brennan & Co, one of the first Northern Ireland companies to avail of BT Business Total Broadband: Fibre has commented: “We specialise in dealing with all aspects of small businesses particularly business start-ups and company formations. Now more than ever, businesses need reassurance and support in their early days so it is important that we provide the best service we can and that means employing the best technology available.

“We’re finding that we are much more productive because we can multitask as the fibre can cope with a lot of things going on at once, like VOIP, videoconferencing and transfer of large FTP files.”

As part of BT’s UK wide rollout plan Balmoral is the first exchange area to get the service in Northern Ireland and will be closely followed by the Lisburn and Bangor exchange areas, which will have the service by the end of the summer 2010.
